What it is

The Google AI Overview Visibility Report measures how often your brand appears in Google's AI Overviews — the AI-generated answers that now sit at the top of many search results. For a set of real, location-based searches, it shows three things:

  • Visibility — the share of AI Overviews that mention your business.
  • Mentions — which businesses get named in those answers, and how often (you vs. your competitors).
  • Sources — the websites and specific pages Google pulled from to write each answer.

How to use it

  1. Visit the Google AI Overview report page: https://app.splashdash.com/action/google-overview
  2. Enter your website and target location.
  3. SplashDash runs a sample of real searches a local customer might type.
  4. Review your results across the three layers — visibility score, brand mentions, and cited sources.
  5. Act on the gaps: the queries you're missing, the competitors outranking you, and the source pages worth strengthening.

When to use it

Starting AEO/GEO work — establish a baseline before you optimize for AI search.

Benchmarking — see how you stack up against named competitors in your market.

Before and after content updates — measure whether new pages actually move the needle.

Ongoing tracking — re-run monthly to catch shifts as AI Overviews change.

Entering a new market — check visibility in any location you serve, not just your home base.

For Marketing & Agency Use

SplashDash reports are built to drop straight into client work:

  • Client reporting — a clear, visual snapshot of AI search performance that's easy to present.
  • Pitching and audits — show a prospect exactly where they stand in AI Overviews before the first call.
  • Competitive strategy — identify which competitors and directories dominate the answers, and why.
  • Content roadmaps — turn cited-source and missed-query data into concrete page and topic recommendations.

Each report has a shareable link, so you can send results to clients or teammates without extra logins.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is a Google AI Overview?

It's the AI-generated summary Google shows at the top of many search results. It pulls from multiple websites to answer a query directly — often before any traditional links.

  • How is visibility calculated?

It's the percentage of AI Overviews in your sample that mention your brand. If 12 of your searches return an Overview and you're named in 11, your visibility is 92%.

  • How many searches does it run?

Each report runs a sample of real, intent-based searches for your location and industry. Not every search triggers an AI Overview, so the report also shows how many did.

  • Is it location-specific?

Yes. Results are tied to the location you choose, so you can measure visibility in any market you serve.

  • How is this different from traditional rank tracking?

Rank tracking measures where your pages sit in the standard blue-link results. This measures whether Google's AI is mentioning and citing your business in its generated answers — a separate and fast-growing surface.

  • What are "sources"?

The websites Google read while writing its answers — your own pages, directories, and review sites. Appearing in these sources increases the chance your business gets mentioned.

  • How often should I run it?

Once during the sales process, or monthly is a good cadence for most businesses. AI Overviews change frequently, so regular checks catch movement early.
